Anderson survivors sit-in outside Schlissel’s house

Former University of Michigan football player and Robert Anderson survivor Jon Vaughn knew this was coming.

Vaughn, 51, began a sit-in outside of U-M President Mark Schlissel’s house at about 7 p.m. Friday, and said he’s going to be there as long as it takes to see some real change. He has been working with a nutritionist and trainer so that he’s prepared mentally and physically to sleep outside and fast for long periods.

U-M has now received more than 2,000 complaints of alleged abuse by the late Dr. Robert Anderson, an athletic team doctor who retired from his role at U-M in 2003 and died in 2008.

Survivors and advocacy groups have been protesting outside Michigan Stadium and Board of Regents meetings, but they feel they haven’t been heard. Vaughn said the straw that broke the camel’s back and spurred the sit-in was when survivors were ignored outside of September’s board meeting.
