Motor Bella cancels Wednesday activities due to rain

Pontiac — The Detroit Auto Dealers Association canceled Motor Bella’s second industry and press day scheduled for Wednesday after heavy rain hit Metro Detroit, the auto event organizers said late Tuesday.

Teams will now be prepping the M1 Concourse grounds in Pontiac for public days of the show that are scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 23-26. The mostly outdoor event is taking place this year instead of the indoor North American International Auto Show, which is also organized by the DADA.

“After a very successful and highly anticipated first day, we had a significant amount of rain hit the facility, resulting in flooding and water damage to exhibit areas,” said Rod Alberts, DADA executive director, said in a statement Tuesday night. “With the significant amount of rain forecasted to continue well into tomorrow, we unfortunately are forced to cancel all activities scheduled for tomorrow and focus on ensuring the facility is ready for public days.”

The National Weather Service’s office in White Lake had not published a rainfall total for Pontiac late Tuesday evening, but the agency said 1.86 inches of rain fell in Farmington and 1.34 inches was recorded in Bloomfield Hills.

More rain is expected. Metro Detroit residents could see 4 inches to 6½ inches of rainfall by late Thursday, the weather service said. The worst of the rain is expected Wednesday and a flood watch is in effect through Thursday for Huron, Saginaw, Tuscola, Sanilac, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee and Monroe counties.

Public days are scheduled to open at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 with more than 350 vehicles on-site from 35 brands, ride-along activities and a 120,000-square-foot off-road track. Public days continue through 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26.
