‘Bargain Block’ HGTV series is returning for second season

Before the season finale of “Bargain Block” in June, Keith Bynum said that renovating ailing and abandoned homes in Detroit was about more than making reality TV content.

“I think the world is a scary place sometimes,” he said. “When you have a house that you can come home to and it’s a little cocoon and you can forget all the scary things outside your front door, that’s a dream to be able to give that to somebody.”

Well, the dream will be continuing on HGTV. The network announced Tuesday that it is ordering ten 10 new episodes of the Motor City-based “Bargain Block” hosted by Bynum and Evan Thomas and featuring Detroit real estate agent Shea Hicks-Whitfield.

The show follows Bynum and Thomas, who are personal and business partners, as they buy and renovate empty, often deteriorating homes within a small vicinity — sometimes for as little as $1,000 — and transform them into eye-catching abodes that are sold fully furnished, often to first-time homebuyers, in the range of $70,000 to $100,000.
