    Customers shouldn’t take DTE, Consumers Energy at their word

    Another summer of severe thunderstorms, another crisis where hundreds of thousands of Michigan residents lose power — including a peak of around 900,000 DTE Energy customers in the most recent storms — and another round of messaging from the utilities about how they were hit hard by extreme weather and are working to restore power

    Many might assume that this is normal and to be expected.

    It is not.

    Michigan really does have more severe power outages than most of the rest of the country, and it has been that way for years.
